Description of Style:  This style of martial arts has techniques influenced from shotokan karate, okinawan uechi-ryu, okinawan goju ryu, isshin-ryu, jujitsu, taekwondo and kenpo. It was created to make a martial arts system traditional but also have applications for the modern world.

The katas are from shotokan karate. You might only see slight variations of the traditional katas. Shotokan karate is known for its hard-style techniques, which help to develop power.

Two versions of the front stance have been incorporated into the system zenkutso dachi (long front stance) and seisan- dachi (short stance). The reason for this is because shotokan karate is known for powerful deep stances to develop leg strength. The only problem with this is that it requires too much energy to move and wastes valuable time to strike, so the stance has been changed to seisan-dachi for fighting purposes. The strikes are still powerful but allow more freedom of movement if required.

The kicking techniques are encouraged to be below the waistline. The reason is kicking below the waistline is quicker and a lot better on your joints. The kicks are geared towards everybody no matter your physique.

This style has a philosophy of “use whatever works” for self-defense. It allows students to learn self-defense techniques that will help him/her in a life or death situation. But, most importantly it allows students to create self-defense techniques that will work for him/her. Sometimes the techniques taught by an instructor don’t “suit” the student’s physique. So this is why they are encouraged to think and create practical ways of self-defense.
